Constructive Confrontation
Kristina, wow, your humble servant here admires your courage to apply "Constructive Confrontation" in your action plan! However, you carefully "set the stage" for it with your careful survey research to make sure you are dealing with facts when you engage in "constructive confrontation." Yes, there are times when we need to "clear the air" face-to-face; we must enter such occasions with facts in hand. Or we risk terrific toxic blowback against us as change agents. Your humble servant here has sat in a room with all of the following present: school board, city council, and library board. I was doing an automation project; the mayor of the town accused me of taking vendor kickbacks! I was in command of my numbers and neutralized the mayor's attack because I could justify the numbers. I learned good and hard that when we engage in change make sure your numbers are good and hard, for you will live or die by them as a change agent. I can relate to your constructive confrontation scenario. My entire professional reputation as a technology planner for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction was on the line in that room with those boards. The facts won out. Sadly, the mayor died of a heart attack shortly thereafter. I guess he was angry about his health; I was a way to vent. I learned from him. Keep up your good work. Dr. Rux
