We are not "islands unto ourselves."

Deanna, thank you for this powerful argument for ethical living that values community.  Right now, greed says the individuals can do whatever she or he wants to make money regardless of how much it harms or literally kills others.  As Aristotle observed, we are "social animals."  We need each other to survive.  This writer needs the Charter cable Internet technician to make a living.  Babies need parents, grandparents, and other loving adults to simply survive.  He needs the grocery story to eat.  You get the picture.  As the English  poet Dryden observed years ago, we are not "islands unto ourselves."  So it was in the 1600's when Dryden penned this, so it was in 500 B.C. when Aristotle underscored the "social animal" insight, and to is remains in 2014.  Yes, you "hit the nail on the head" here good and hard!  Dr. Rux
