Ethics of Power

Brandy, this is a question of power.  We do not like to think about power in education; it is there, as you observe.  The ethical challenge is making sure this power is fairly shared among stakeholders.  Your humble servant here is a firm believer in the value of local control of education.  He rejects top-down social engineering from some ivory tower or distant bureaucratic office.  He also believes in teacher unions to make sure teachers have a fair share of power, since they are stakeholders.  Parents are stakeholders.  The challenge, of course, is to work to have an equitable sharing of this power; as you point out, do not fool yourself about power not being a factor in educational structures.  Thank you for this discussion.  Dr. Rux
