Ronda, yes, balance is crucial in life. We need to work, play, and recreate ourselves. John Bolles calls this "the three boxes of life," the title of his famous bestseller by this name. The ancient Greeks feared extremes. Extremes are not human. The human body is a mechanism of balance. Therefore, anything that is pushed to an extreme becomes according to the ancient wisdom of thinkers like Plato and Aristotle, and other "humanists," anti-human. Nothing has changed to challenge the validity and reliability of the insights of such persons. This is why your humble servant loves the "classics."
