St. Thomas Aquinas

Alexander, my hero is St. Thomas Aquinas.  He is known as the "Great Synthesizer."  In his Summa Theologica he points out that truth is indivisible.  Truth "merges" if we give ourselves time to reflect and are honest with ourselves.

Here is an example.  In Quantum Physics, the latest paradigm in that field of science, experts speak of a logic behind the energy flows which are the stuff of sub-atomic particles, which in turn create atoms, and so on.

In the Gospel of St. John, he, John, starts with "In the beginning was the Word..."  In Greek the "word for Word is Logos.  In the beginning was the Logic.  Quantum physics speaks of the primal logic behind all reality that guides, directs it; St. John does too!  Aquinas, of course, would say, "This ought not to surprise you.  In the end all truths converge on, into a single "Truth."

Aquinas made it possible for a person of Faith, like your humble servant here, to pursue science without fear of losing his Faith.  My parents had this fear when I went to the University of Wisconsin - Madison, famed, or infamous, among the regular people in my state, for pushing atheism.  I met Aquinas on campus in a course on Medieval culture; it was a major turning point for this writer.

We just keep re-learning basic lessons, the "Permanent Things," as American philosopher Russell Kirk called it.
