Derrick, this is thoughtful, thorough, and very powerful! What struck this writer is your insight especially into being open to cross-cultural comparisons. As your humble servant here has opined before in our course, we learn through comparisons. Why do they do it this way when we do it that way? Your openness to learning from others by giving them a chance to state their viewpoints, not prejudging them, is part of an important openness that can enlighten us. In other words, stop talking and start listening! Your emphasis on loyalty resonates, too, with this writer, who is awaiting a visit from a friend of over 40 years now from Canada! We started out as teachers in Ontario, Canada at the same elite prep school for boys; over the years, since 1970, we have remained loyal friends. I am waiting his arrival after a 12-hour drive this very day. Yes, loyalty is a great ethical value, if we are loyal to good, healthy things, persons. It is rare today to hear people talk about loyalty. Our society of greed simply says use people, do not be loyal to them, their needs, their dignity. Thanks for sharing. Dr. Rux
