Ethical Learning

Week 5 Learning Summary, March 30 – April 5, 2014 – Dr. Paul Rux

As we complete our fifth of eight weeks of online study together, what is striking is how very well you are able to relate the subject matter of our course to your own situations.  You have engaged in some very powerful sharing about personal ethical challenges, professional ethical challenges, and family ethical challenges.  You, in short, are going beyond “theory” (course information) into “practice” (practical application of theory to real life issues, challenges).  First,  thank you for having the courage to engage in such highly personal sharing.  It is evidence of the ethical trust among members of our course to have confidence that such highly personal sharing will not provide opportunities for unethical use of such highly personal information, professional and family.  It is proof of the high ethical standards that members of our course have.   Of course, understandably, what is shared in our course “stays in our course.”   It is the ethical course of action.  In the process of applying theory to practice, you are also bringing down our academic discussion from “20,000 feet” for real-world application.  In other words, you are not “casual” about learning.  On the contrary, you are serious, professional, and a credit to those who have helped you to reach such ethical maturity and strength.   I admire you for it!
