Hey, ho, Albert Schweitzer is the way to go!
Katie, thank you for citing Albert Schweitzer's "Reverence for Life" ethical dictum. Your humble servant here believes God has created all human life - plant and animal too. But above all, humans share in the "image of God" as Genesis teaches. Therefore, for us to kill, harm, maim, hurt a human is in effect a direct attack on God. Imagine what God must think about our bloody world wars with millions killed. This is one of the reasons why this writer dislikes intensely the gratuitous violence Hollywood uses to peddle its vulgarity in order to make money. It glorifies killing humans; this is exactly the opposite of Schweitzer's dictum. Schweitzer by the way left Europe for Africa for he despaired over the preparation for and eventual implementation of warfare. He wanted to go where he could live according to his values, Reverence for Life; he was also wise enough to realize that if people want to destroy themselves we cannot stop them. So he did not waste his time, energy and worked as a medical doctor to in effect honor God's creation. I have not heard this stated for some time; I am pleased to hear it again from you. We need to pass it on! Thank you. Dr. Rux P.S. Schweitzer's mother was killed during World War I by French cavalry troops as she crossed a street. Ouch. Dr. Rux
