Calling All Realists!

Andrew, your "benevolent dictator" jumps out at your humble servant here and hits him "right between the ears!"  Bravo!  You are a realist.  You have learned that managers, leaders need to know how to use both "carrots" and, yes, "sticks," the dictatorship stuff.  We court disaster, as you suggest, if all we rely on is "psycho-babble" and candy treats.  At times we must be willing to "crack the whip" to stay on course.  You deserve praise for being perceptive and honest about this.  Another words is discipline.  Discipline means I have the authority - a bad word in our culture of endless rights to this and that for nothing - to set and hold you to reasonable expectations.  Do not back away from this insight.  You may want to couch, frame it in different words, "carrots and sticks," but you are a realist!  Wow, it is refreshing to meet a realist today!   We badly need them!   Dr. Rux
