The Ever-vital Remnant

Given the growing economic and political debacles in America, the Conservative "brand" receives less and less respect in the "marketplace" in this country. Therefore, persons who value the "Permanent Things" as guides to healthy living need to conserve our "seed corn" for days ahead in which people will be willing to revisit them when the term Conservative is not associated in the popular mind with degenerate interest groups who are pulling us down to perdition. We need to conserve and construct foundations for a renewal of interest in following the "Permanent Things" in the shells of the failing systems around us. We need to assume the role of the biblical "Remnant" who remained Faithful while the rest of society went "whoring" after other gods, to use Old Testament language. The "Remnant" has always conserved the "Permanent Things" for better days when people again are ready to revisit basic choices and relearn basic values after the pain of following false gods brings them to their senses. If we want to win popularity contests right now, run from the label Conservative. If we want to make a constructive difference, we will remain faithful to the "Permant Things" and conserve them for better days ahead. I credit Albert J. Nock (1872-1945) for his insights into the importance of the "Remnant" in biblical and human history. It is one of his "little Nocks." I am honored to restate and share it.
