Hegel Rides Again

You will notice as we move through our course that your humble servant here often plays the part, role of “contrarian.”

He will challenge the wisdom of the textbook with other insights.  This is to catalyze critical thinking in our course, not just blind acceptance of some textbook.

It is an application of the “Hegelian Dialectic” of George Hegel (1770-1831).

First, you have a statement, the “thesis.”

Second, you have a statement that contradicts, counters the “thesis.”  This counter to the “thesis” is the “antithesis.”

Then, our critical thinking seeks to resolve, blend the clash between “thesis” and “antithesis” into a credible, working “synthesis.”

The so-called government of our country ought to apply Hegel ian synthesis to overcome the present gridlock in Washington between “thesis” and “antithesis,” which is the result of having to be extreme now to get mass media market.  Once the parties decide to move beyond hype propaganda, the “Hegelian Dialectic” offers a progress model.

I look forward to another great week from you.  Keep it coming!   Dr. Rux
