Ethics of Student-teacher Business Relationships

Brandy, clearly you have reflected carefully on the professional duties, obligations, ethics of educators, whether they are professors or teachers.  In particular, this writer has been teaching in higher education since 1996, when he started teaching MBA students onsite.  He went online in 1999.  In 2008, he expanded to online doctoral teaching.  In particular, he has been alert to student contacts beyond the classroom.  For instance, a student at another online doctoral program recently asked this writer if he could collaborate with your humble servant here in business ventures.  I immediately drew a read line under this request.  Any talk about working beyond the classroom must wait until the course is over and occur outside the context of the academic setting totally.  One of my MBA students at DeVry University in 1998 has become my closest professional associates - after he finished his degrees (M.B.A., M.I.S., M.P.M.).  We were very careful to separate our business ventures from our student-teacher relationships; we did not team until I was gone from DeVry and he had graduated from DeVry.  Yes, it is crucial to remain about suspicion of favoritism especially at this level.  Thanks. Dr. Rux
