Collapse of faculty power.

Katie, faculty power is an interesting discussion.  Today, business management of education, higher education in particular, is eroding if not totally eclipsing traditional collegial governance in higher education.  The top-down factory command model is eroding the traditional bottom-up, faculty, collegial, guild approach to governance.  Yes, ideally, faculty ought to have professional say; the reality is, such power is eroding because of using business models to manage education.  The checklists in the readings for our course, sadly, are an idealistic echo from a fast fading past.  It will be interesting to see if the old governance will reassert itself again.  Dr. Rux
