Winston Churchill, Tradition, and Ethics
Serena, your humble servant is reading a biography by Paul Johnson of Winston Churchill and loving it.  Today, the biographer observed how Churchill loved the constitutional values, processes of England, its traditions, its "structures."  The biographer provides a footnote on Churchill's observation about "structures."  Another word could be "traditions" for "structures."   Yes, tradition shapes us.  This is why this writer is a traditionalist.  Confucius, too, observed that traditions, if they are good, healthy, provide ethical nurture and guidance for us.  It is therefore important not to debase, vulgarize traditions.  For instance, this writer considers Christmas to be a religious day, not a commercial consumption festival.  You get the idea.  Traditions count, especially if they are healthy, time-tested.  To debase them is to court vulgar barbarism.  Dr. Rux
