Timeless Tension
Kelly, this is a neat balance between the value of the individual and the value of the group. Both need limits, or they hurt each other, individual vs. group, or they even hurt themselves as individuals or as groups. This is an age-old tension between individual and group; it will not really go away, unless we have a dictatorship that makes the Supreme One the be-all and end-all of everything with the rest of us turned into property for the dictator to do with as he or she pleases. On the other hand, we can have group tyranny as well over, against the individual. Think conformity here. Yes, the challenge is, as Aristotle and Buddha noted, to find and adhere to the "Middle Way," a balance between social and individual. Thanks. Dr. Rux
