Power of Environments to Shape Our Ethics
Derrick, yes, this "hits the nail on the head" good and hard. Right now, your humble servant has a grandson age 10 and his sister age 6 who are on a weekend with their "father," a drunk. The mother divorced him three years ago; she did not have backbone enough to stand up against him when custody and visitation rights arose in the court. As a result, our two angels must spend two weekends a month in a very destructive setting. It is impossible for them to rise above, detach themselves from such an ogre and the negative behaviors at their ages, and when they are alone with him, although the court said a sober adult must be present at all times with them. Yes, environment counts. This grandpa very, very much wants, prays we can find a way to keep them with us in a sober, decent, positive environment. This zero made telephone death threats against this writer. It took the police six weeks to track down who sent them. The chief of police advised this writer as follows, "He's got guns and booze. Don't escalate." However, the police records are there, and if he "crosses the line" with the grand kids they can come into play. Yes, what is around us shapes us, for better or worse. Dr. Rux
