One small cloud can blot out the sun.
This
week in feedback to your ethical analyses of various leaders, your professor
has pointed out how “one small cloud can blot out the sun.” This is a teaching of the Italian political
genius Machiavelli. It means we can do
everything right; one slip-up (1%) can cause people to forget what we have done
right (99%). Think President Clinton and
Monica Lewinsky. Leaders to establish
and keep credibility must do the right thing 100% of the time or risk having
that misstep (small cloud or 1%) blot out the many, many things they have done
right (sun, 99%).
