Ethical Behavior Is the Same On and Off the Job.
Johnel, what jumps out at your humble servant here is your opening observation about how we do not change ethics, or unethical behaviors, on the job and off the job. We are the same ethical or unethical person regardless of context. Research in management science makes the same observation. Our personalities are the same on and off the job. If we have a temper off the job, we will have a temper on the job. Therefore, it is valid for an employer to check the off-job reputation, records, habits of a potential employee or actual employee to manage risks. We have a family member who got fired some years ago. We have never heard why. However, in home, personal life this family member is a bully. It is not hard to suspect what happened at, on the job. A bully is a bully, period, always, on the job or off the job. Secular materialists would call this personality, and philosophers and theologians would call this soul or spirit. In the final analysis, it amounts to the same observation. We do not change personalities, souls, ethics on the job or off the job. Thank you for the reminder "right off the bat" in your discussion. Dr. Rux
