Developmental Psychology and Ethics

Victoria, this is thoughtful, thorough, and Biblical.  Thank you.  Here is another approach to formation of the human soul.  It comes from developmental psychology.  It says we humans are made up of networks of nerves.  These networks in effect shape our personalities, conscience, abilities with languages and music.  Note conscience.  The human "wiring" to develop properly requires stimulus to grow at certain ages.  Once these critical ages are past, we cannot rewire the person.  Therefore, like it or not, they are "hardwired" for life to behave in certain ways, like it or not.  This of course challenges the notion of rehab, rehabilitation which drives so much of our legal system today.  Instead, it says, a "hard-wired" killer remains a killer because we cannot undo, redo the nervous networks in the person.  So it is crucial how we treat children, especially from ages 1-6, when much of this "wiring" takes place.  I simply provide a secular approach to how the body and soul can come into conflict.  This does not in any way detract from Bible teaching.  It says, rather, we need to pay close attention to parenting, as did Mary and Joseph with Jesus.  Amen. Dr. Rux
