Unite Not Divide

Mark, the Bible teaches all of us are created in the "image of God." For me, this means all of us have the same God-given value, and it also means that all of us share in the same needs - for example, all of us need to eat. Immanuel Kant dug into the commonalities that unite, not separate, people. For instance, he observed, which echoes Genesis here, that all humans have a need for dignity, value, meaning. It is amazing how over the centuries we keep revisiting timeless truths about the human condition. Yes, seek what is common, not what divides. It is cheap politics to press "hot buttons" to divide people when instead we ought to build on our common humanity - God-given in the view of your humble servant here. In fact, my very existence is a gift - and everything around me is a gift. As a result, I need to pay attention to how I ought to be a good steward of the creation of the "Logos" ("Word" in St. John) behind reality.
