To REN or Not to REN

Rotary Minute, September 24, 2015 – Paul Rux, Ph.D.
I like Chinese food
And I like Chinese philosophy.
Today, let me give you a taste of Chinese philosophy and how it applies to Rotary.
Confucius, one of my heroes, had a core concept.  He called it REN:  R – E – N.
It means: benevolence, compassion, concern for the welfare of others.
We Rotarians call R-E-N, REN:  Service.
Service means: benevolence, compassion, concern for the welfare of others.
Service is REN and REN means service.
Yes, it is a small world.
The wise persons in it, Confucius and we Rotarians, know that REN, Service, is key to moral living.
REN and Rotary forever!
