Double Standards and Immanuel Kant

Johnel, a productive way to look at the challenges of testing is to apply Immanuel Kant's "Categorical Imperative."  This means "what is good for the goose is good for the gander."  In short, we are unethical when we engage in "double standards."  Double standards mean somebody is being exploited, according to Kant; your humble servant agrees with this.  If you use standardized tests, it is the same for all, or it is victimizing persons who adhere to the standards.  It is not popular to say this today, of course; if getting a grade of A requires submitting five assignments, the student who submits only three ought not to get an A, since it would be exploiting the honest worker.  Think on how Kant applies here.  Thanks.  Dr. Rux
