Business Ethics in Small Towns

Marisa, you "wear two hats."  One is a teacher's "hat."   The other is a real estate agent's "hat."  Your discussion of ethics in real estate jumped out at this writer because most of the members of our course are full-time professional educators with little or no ties to the world of business.  Therefore, it was interesting to observe how you blended your business with your educational ethics into a single coherent personal ethical statement.  You are, in short, consistent, "in and out of school."  This writer lives in a small Rural Wisconsin town of 7,000 in farmland country.  "Everybody knows everybody," as the old saying about small towns goes.  Consequently, if you engage in unethical behavior the "word is out" quick for people to avoid you.  So unethical behavior in small town business is a prescription for failure.  The "pillars" of our small community are long-standing residents, and overall, they have stellar ethical records, which is why they are leaders here.  Yes, it pays to be ethical, especially when you have only one main street and you cannot hide from the people you have harmed.  Good job!   Dr. Rux
