Kendrey, this is excellent.  There is another way of saying what you have mined from these writers.  It comes from Existentialism, the philosophy of.  It goes this way.  Biology trumps sociology.  Sociology consists of the fake realities that the mass media and other opinion shaping agendas create.  The whole focus on and celebration of shopping as some kind of achievement is an example.  Counter to this is biology, our personal mmake-up and Mother Nature, which, if we step back, step aside, and take time to engage with and reflect on them opens the door to enlightenment, authenticity, and grounded living.  Think smoking here.  Tobacco smoking is the result of mass media and social convention.  The result is denial of biology, the reality of cancer of the lung.  Biology trumps sociology, if we let it!  Dr.Rux
