Telling the truth is dangerous as a rule.
Marisa, yes, truth, honesty threaten lots of folks, especially if it threatens, or seems to threaten, their power, position, income, and need for praise. Machiavelli noted this years ago when he observed: "Truth is dangerous. Hint at it, but never state it." He, of course, was talking about political tactics, but, sadly, they apply elsehwere too, too often. For people to tell, deal with truth, we must remove fear of retaliation in the culture, value system of the settings, meetings, organizations. It is amazing how often I still attend meetings where people fear to tell the truth; sadly, this writer often is one of them. His reasoning is that it would make no difference if he spoke up, except to only undermine his safety. It is sad, but we must pick our battles wisely. We cannot fight every one and all of them. There is a time to tell the truth, however. May we have the judgement to know when and the courage to act. Dr. Rux
