Plato's Perspective Applies Today

Marissa, this is a powerful comparison.  We learn through contrast, comparison.  Plato, my old friend, noted many years ago that a society needs to censor (right word) the sights and sounds in it, for they set the tone for ethical behavior in it.  Ms. Cyrus uses cheap vulgarity as a PR trick to sell tickets.  In the process, she debases the values that built this country.  Plato observed his country, Athens, in decline and was desperate to find a way to restore its health.  Policing vulgarity was basic to survival.  Alas, his countrymen ignored him; shortly after his death, the Macedonians conquered Athens good and hard.  The Macedonians had no time for vulgarity.  You can see why your professor loves Plato.  Dr. Rux
