Old School Work Ethic

Kristyn, yes, like it or not, social classes are a reality in America.  We do not like to admit it.  The question is how does the individual move from one class to another.  Historically, it has been through individual effort.  Yes, as you point out, the ideal is to provide a fair starting point, e.g. education that equips us with hard basic skills like reading, writing, computation, and, yes, even manners.  Now, we have social engineers who want to guarantee results because of our "identity," not our skill sets, work ethic. Yes, your humble servant here is "old school."  He still believe people should work for what they get, and he believes all of us should have the chance to get an equal start in the race of life.  How far and fast we run, however, is, in the final analysis, of this writer, up to individual effort, not governmental bureaucracies and their mandates.  Yes, this writer is "out of step with the times," but he is honest about it.  Dr. Rux
