Immanuel Kant Straight to the Point

Derrick, you "hit the nail on the head" good and hard with your summary of Kant's ethics.  One, it is based on man's capacity for reason, to reason.  This separates humans from animals, rocks, birds, fish, etc.  It is common to all humans; therefore, Kant rightly, in the view of this writer, uses it as the foundation for his ethical system.  Two, since humans are the same at our core, the ethics we apply to one apply to all, which he terms the "Categorical Imperative."  If I need to eat, you deserve to eat.  If I need clothing, you deserve clothing.  The same standard applies to all, or we have a "double standard."  Whenever we have "double standards" somebody is being victimized.  Your humble servant here loves Kant because he focuses on what we humans have in common, not what separates us, which are usually trivial, surface things, not core human needs, realities.  Find what is common and work together, instead of pushing "hot buttons" to divide us on the basis of surface differences.  You sum it up well here!  Dr. Rux
