Hey, hey, Immanuel Kant all the way!

Serena, this is fascinating.  In your analysis of case one, you in effect restate Kant.  Kant argues that because all humans have the capacity to reason, they deserve the right to exercise it.  Reason is what makes us human.  Animals, for instance, have instincts, not reason.  To deny use of reason is anti-human, and it is therefore unethical, as you point out.  In your case two analysis, you in effect point out the perils of Utilitarianism, that is, the individual must conform or risk pressure to conform to the majority.  In both cases, you sound the alert for protecting basic individual human dignity.  Bravo!   Dr. Rux
