You are restating in essence Immanuel Kant. He argues that each human has reason, with which to analyze and weigh facts and to make decisions for himself or herself. To bypass this unique human quality is to dehumanize us, them. What makes us human, as Kant observes, is our unique capacity to reason, which birds, rocks, animals, fish, plants, etc. do not possess.
