Is it fair to all concerned?

ROTARY MINUTE –Dr. Paul Rux, July 18, 2013
One of the reasons I like Rotary is our Four Way Test.
In particular, I like Test number  two: Is it fair to all concerned?
German philosopher Immanuel Kant provides an excellent definition of what it means to be fair to all concerned.
He calls it the Categorical Imperative. It simply says that if we are using “double standards
in our treatment of others, somebody is being exploited. We are not being fair to all concerned.
“Is it fair to all concerned?” goes straight to the heart of defining ethical and unethical behavior.
“Is it fair to all to all concerned?  is Rotary’s version of Immanuel Kant’s classic “Categorical Imperative:” no double standards.
“Is it fair to all concerned ?” Rotary asks the right questions.
