People of the Book

Barbara, thank your for this information about healthcare, or the lack of it, in the Middle East for the common people there.  This is one of the reasons why radical Islam has appeared.  Political parties are not allowed in most of these countries, which, in effect are dictatorships.  The dictatorships however cannot easily muzzle Islam, religion, without an explosion.  Therefore, the poor people turn to Islam as the vehicle for their grievances.  Islam teaches charity among Muslims - and to others also.  Thus, religion champions justice for the common person in these countries.  Now, the sad part is our country has created alliances, for the sake of oil profits, with the ruling elites of these countries.  This leads to the perception, rightly, that we are on the side of the ruling elites there, and this puts us in the path of "radical" Islam.  Yes, greed here at home has worked to destroy our economy, and it is not over yet.  The same greed is at work overseas in the Middle East.  The corporate vampires and their political allies do not care if they rob us here or others over there.  The truly sad part of all of this is this greed pits the poor here - who must fight the wars - against the poor there, who end up defending themselves as best they can against local gangsters and their foreign allies.  It is truly truly sad.  Islam teaches Jews and Christians are "brothers" to Islam, for all of them share the Old Testament in the Bible as common truth.  The Prophet taught that for this reason Muslims should treat Jews and Christians well for we share a common foundation.  Greed sadly has obscured this basis for unity.
