Shaun, in effect, collegial governance, or teamwork, is a sham; people quickly see through it. This in turn demoralizes them, for they know the system is "rigged," and what they think and recommend do not matter. W.E. Deming, the Father of TQM, observed that this is a fast way to debilitate the human resources that we need to continuously improve. In short, meetings are briefings about decisions made elsewhere; it is offensive to an intelligent person. As a result workers start to lose interest; worst of all, Knowledge Workers begin to withhold insights that would, could move everybody forward. Treating Knowledge Workers like widgets does not motivate them to work harder.
