Adult Learning at Madison (WI) College

Jeanine, several years ago, my wife hurt her back and is now legally disabled. She cannot carry a gallon of milk. As a result, she retrained as a nail technician as our local technical college (Madison College). She came home after class crying. I asked her why. Overt sexual harrassment on the part of the kids in the course and the teacher - who discussed their sexual techniques during the previous week openly in front of the class I told her to tell the teacher to stop it. She came home again crying the next night because of vulgar gestures by kids in front of the classroom. The Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin was a family friend, and when the college refused to stop this, your humble servant here called the Lt. Gov. - a woman, who is a champion of women's rights. A call from the Lt. Gov. to the president of the college put a stop to this shameful behavior. The president came down to the class and "read the riot act" for one hour on the day of my phone call to the Lt. Gov. Such behavior tells this writers that the organizational culture at this so-called college is totally out of whack - and the college does not pass standard as a place to prepare folks for the workforce where a work ethic is a must for operations to go forward without friction. I cannot imagine such behavior in an adult classroom in China, Japan, India, etc. Sadly, not everybody has "connections" to exert pressure on such "colleges" to stop such offensive behavior. We were lucky. Dr. Rux
