One day on a lake pier

Jason, bingo, yes, organizational cultures exist, and academic organizational cultures are prone, very prone to self-selection. This writer once had a discussion with a tenured professor at his alma mater on a pier on the lake on which the campus of the University of Wisconsin - Madison rests. Anyway, this professor was in the department of Sociology, not Management, so he had no power over your humble servant here.  So, he began to brow beat this writer for suggesting that conservative sociologist Thomas Sowell, Stanford, was credible. Two visiting professors from other universities were on the pier with us - and had nothing to fear from this big-shot Wisconsin Sociologist. They in fact said, "Hey, you are not in your classroom now." It shut up the Wisconsin Sociologist and he stomped off the pier.
